INTRODUCTION
The Lagos State
University Consult Limited in partnership with Universal Research Training
Institute (URTI) is inviting participants to register for training in Diploma,
Executive Masters Class, and Certificate Courses in Border and Migration
Studies. The first cohort of training is scheduled to begin in January 2025.
The Border and Migration
training courses provide participants with practical and analytical tools to
understand the political, socio-economic, and emerging challenges of border and
migration management in a globalizing world. The programme’s interdisciplinary
approach enables our trainees to analyze complex border dynamics and migratory
problems from contemporary governance perspectives. Participants will gain
theoretical and practical knowledge of border and migration problems, border
culture, border tensions, cross-border community dynamics, and construction of
“otherness”, including migration patterns, diasporas, and migrants' rights
among others.
LCL-URTI's training
philosophy is demand-driven. It seeks to provide the participants with
knowledge and equip them with skills on how to manage regional-specific
challenges of bordering and migration. This includes awareness of the need to
provide needed evidence-based solutions to informed decision-making.
RATIONALE
International Borders and
Migration are contemporary issues of global concern. Both constitute part of
the transformational processes of social structures, institutions, and the
global political economy. In entirety, they shape and reshape social relations,
making them more diverse and complex on the policy agenda in recent years.
Objectives – include to:
Build the capacity of
state and non-state actors, to govern the border and migration regimes, under
good practices, and to harness the potential for sustainable development.
Expose the learners to a
broad inter-disciplinary perspective of the complexity of borders and migration
in different contexts, under regional settings
Offer a comprehensive
understanding of the nature of borders, emerging transnational threats, causes,
consequences, and dynamics of different types of migration.
These objectives align with the African Union Border Governance Framework (2020), Agenda 2030, and the UN Global Compact on Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (A/RES/73/195). The career paths are presently in great demand and quickly open a variety of highly skilled positions in the labour market.
